Connection between Mind and Dreams.

As a human, the concept of dreams looks very usual to us most of the time. But what would you say if someone told you that dreams have scientific, psychological as well as spiritual meaning in our life? Yes, they have in fact it would not be wrong if, I would say that the future you are so keen to know by going to various sources your mind already knows. Let's find out how. The concept of dreams is still not fully understood but according to already existing research, we tend to sleep in various stages most remembered dreams occur during a stage called remembered eye movement stage (REM) other stages of dreams are not so memorable. The main part of the brain which plays an important role in dreaming is the hippocampus. According to these researchers usually, dreams do not have any significant meaning except that they help in the defense mechanism by pretending a potentially threatening event. These dreams help our brain reprocess past memories and trauma in a more healthy way and store the healthy ones and the unnecessary ones.

In terms of psychology, dreams are processed by our unconscious mind. The theory given by the founder of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud divided our mind memory into three parts conscious, subconscious, and unconscious. The conscious mind consists of those things which are necessary for our reality and of those we are aware of like the smell of a flower, the beauty of a person, instructions to do something, feelings that we are aware of, or our perceptions like when we judge something or someone by our own point of view. The subconscious mind deals with those memories which are not currently on our minds but we are aware of them when necessary or we know that we have learned to walk when we were a kid but we don't know exactly when and how. The unconscious mind has those feelings or memories that are not in our awareness and sometimes we even forget that they happened to us. These memories get repressed in our mind and somehow affect us or influence our behavior and actions unknowingly if a child is brought up in an environment where the parents are abusive with each other that child would not remember those memories after growing up but they affect his/her relationship in future unknowingly. These memories need to be repressed because they are traumatic, uneasy, and irrational.

So this unconscious mind creates those dreams that we see in our sleep. These memories automatically create a kind of defense mechanism in our mind which we use to avoid confrontation with these uncomfortable feelings and memories. According to Sigmund's theory, there is 10 key self-defense mechanism which are Displacement, Denial, Repression and suppression, Sublimation, Projection, Intellectualization, Rationalization, Regression, and Reaction formation.

If we observe our dreams keenly then we can understand what our mind wants to say to us in terms of our insecurities, fear, and anxiety and we can deal with them in a more reasonable or balanced way.

The spiritual importance of dreams As in scientific society doesn't give much importance to this concept but in Islam and Christianity, it has a great significance and importance as well as in psychic studies. In Islamic and Christianity history we can see, that dreams had been a big part of the prophecy and seen as signals and synchronicities, it also teaches us to respect dream's psychological significance too, they believe that good and unmistakable dreams come from Allah, dreams require interpretation comes from angels, and that dreams which do not make sense and create an uncomfortable feeling come from the devil. Similarly, psychic studies find dreams a powerful tool to resolve personal psychological and spiritual issues. For example, if see yourself running from something in your dream then it can tell that you are facing some problem in your life but despite facing it you are trying to ignore or escape from it. Spiritually dreams can be of various kinds good, bad, emotional, erotic, colored, or fearful every dream can have its own significance.

Conclusion- All in all dreams can be guided or just a reflection of our own mental and psychological state. Sometimes they can indirectly draw our attention toward the issues we are facing due to our own perceptions, action, negative emotions, and insecurities, and find us unable to resolve them because we ourselves do not know what causes them. So observe and study them carefully and take help if necessary. We always remain curious about our future and try many ways to get access to that part of our life but if we look closely we already know our future which is somehow built upon our past, present, actions, and inactions. Dreams are a kind of bridge that connect us to our past, present, and future strength and weakness.
